IB conference 2010 – Oregon
IB world Student Conference
9-13 August, 2010
Oregon State University
Corvallis, Oregon

The Northwest Association of IB World Schools, in partnership with Oregon State University, is hosting an IB world student conference, 9-13 August, 2010. The theme of the conference comes from the IB mission statement, “creating a better and more peaceful world,” and the programme for the five days takes its inspiration from the keynote speech by Jean Francois Rischard at the IB annual regional conference July, 2007. Rischard, author of High Noon: 20 Global Problems, 20 Years to Solve Them, challenged the participants to act in ways that will bring about positive global change. From this, the IB community theme emerged, and six global topics were targeted for action:

The fight against poverty
Peace-keeping, conflict prevention and combating terrorism
Education for all
Global infectious diseases
The digital divide
Natural disaster prevention and mitigation

During the five days of the IB world student conferences, IB students from all over the world will explore these topics. The aim of the conference is for students to organize action plans to take back to their IB schools and implement over the next few years that would seek to bring about positive global change. Technology has also created the potential for these CAS projects to transcend schools, national boundaries, and continents, allowing IB students from all parts of the world to engage in the same project.
